Women Pick Up First Win, No Game Necessary

By Scott Lemon, Yellowstone Christian College SID

The Yellowstone Christian Centurion women's basketball team picked up their first ever win; however, no player recorded any stats. Fort Peck Community College forfeited the game earlier this week due to the injury bug catching the team.

"They're just excited to play and get tested. That's gonna happen real quick. They were disappointed they didn't get to play tonight, but it'll give us more time to prepare." said first-year Head Coach Dominic Gaglia, noting the upcoming games against Frontier Conference foes Montana Tech and the University of Great Falls coming up in just a couple weeks. Great Falls was picked to finish third in the Frontier this season in the pre-season coaches poll, while Montana Tech is pegged to finish seventh out of eight teams.

The two players to watch going into this season, according to Gaglia, are Taneil Poitier and Tayler Calf Boss Ribs. Poitier, a junior transfer from Little Big Horn College, played for Gaglia for two seasons at LBHC. Gaglia noted that she knows what he expects and has taken on a leadership roll with the team. Conversely, Calf Boss Ribs has exceeded expectations. The true freshman from Heart Butte, Mont., has shown that she can contribute right away at this level. Gaglia spoke highly of all of his players and their dedication to improve on a daily basis.

The Centurions play a road-heavy schedule this season, as only ten of their scheduled 31 games are on their home floor. The first test for the Centurions will come next Saturday, as the women head to Butte to take on Montana Tech at 5:30 p.m. The first official home game for YCC is slated for Nov. 15, as the Centurions and the Buccaneers of Dawson Community College will square off.
